Polypropylene, abbreviated as PP, is a polymer made from propylene through a polymerization reaction. It is a white, waxy material with a clear, lightweight appearance. Chemical formula (C3H6)n, density 0.89 ~ 0.91g/cm3, flammable, melting point of 164 ~ 170 ° C, softened at 155 ° C or so, the use of temperature range of -30 ~ 140 ° C .
It is resistant to corrosion by acid, alkali, salt liquid and many kinds of organic solvents below 80℃, and can be decomposed under high temperature and oxidation. It is used in a wide range of applications, including consumer packaging, plastic parts for the automotive industry and textiles.
What can you make with PP Plastic?
Polypropylene is the lightest plastic material in terms of density. Its appearance is colorless and translucent granules, and as a food-grade plastic, it is widely used in food packaging, such as Styrofoam boxes, PP plastic cups, and so on. Polypropylene can be divided into five main categories according to its main applications: PP injection molding, PP drawing, PP fiber, PP film, and PP pipe.
The following are some applications for Polypropylene (pp)
- Medical devices
- Automotive parts
- Food containers
- Packaging
- Dishware
- Bottles
- Clothing
- toy
- Bottle caps
- Clothing fibers
- Plastic woven products
- Construction materials
- Consumer products
- Garden furniture
- Small household appliances

Polypropylene (PP) Characteristics
Chemical resistance: Dilute bases and acids do not react with PP, which makes it an ideal container for such liquids (e.g. cleaning agents, first aid products, etc.).
Elasticity and toughness: PP is elastic within a certain range of deflection and undergoes plastic deformation early in the deformation process without rupturing, so it is often considered a "tough" material.
Fatigue resistance: PP retains its shape after a lot of twisting and bending. This property is particularly valuable for making movable hinges.
Insulation: PP material has a high electrical resistance and is an insulating material.
Transmittance: It can be made in transparent colors, but is usually made in naturally opaque colors with a certain degree of transmittance. If high transmittance is required, acrylic or PC should be chosen.
How is PP material made?
Like other plastics, Polypropylene (PP) starts as a "fraction" (lighter group) from the distillation of hydrocarbon fuels and combines with other catalysts to produce plastics through polymerization or polycondensation reactions.

Polypropylene (PP)– Manufacturing process :
The obtained powder is finally conveyed to powder silos and then converted into pellets that incorporate a full range of
well-dispersed additives.
Polypropylene (PP) plastic recycling and environmental protection
When polypropylene is recycled, it reduces the consumption of finite resources such as oil and propane gas. About 8% of the world's oil (about 400 million tons) is used in traditional plastics production methods, of which 4% is used as "feedstock" and another 4% is used in manufacturing. If plastics were produced from recycled plastics, energy consumption would also be reduced by 88%. Recycling of polypropylene plastics is therefore environmentally friendly!
